What is Pedal Planet?

Pedal planet is the galactic stop for all things guitar pedals. This is no Space Oddity. Guitar players and enthusiasts can walk into an oxygen chamber and be surrounded by over 600 pedals: 180 degrees of pedal sound all hooked up and ready to go. Adventurers can discover their favourite sound and plug a guitar directly into the display, each segment of which is populated with up to 16 effects, with headphones available for each.

With the custom designed panels and effects being able to be auditioned all at once and in any order, there is a whole galaxy of experimenting and testing at your fingertips! From distortion to delay, from chorus to reverb, this seamless setup saves time and more importantly, jet fuel. Shout out to mastermind Temple Audio for putting serious love and their years of experience into designing the display.

Why Pedal Planet?

We felt there had to be a better way to shop for guitar pedals. Among other things, Pedal Planet looks to:

  • Ease the stress of testing pedals in-store
  • Provide more options to emerging players and seasoned pros
  • Help customers find the right fit and make informed decisions
  • Streamline the audition and pedal selection process
  • Help Cosmo Music take a next step as Canada’s Largest Music Store

“BOSS has a rich, 50-year history of inspirational sound devices. Nearly everyone has a story connected to BOSS. We want to inspire your creativity, and with Pedal Planet, you can explore our rich history real time through the vast selection of BOSS on display at your fingertips.”
– Danny Underwood, Marketing Manager at BOSS

The Pains of Pedal Shopping

If you’ve shopped for guitar pedals, you know the myriad of pain that comes with the traditional in-store experience. It takes making a simple, informed purchasing decision for guitar pedals and turns it into an arduous space journey. Finding your pedal in-stock is the first problem. Most stores aren’t set up to carry a planetary pedal volume, so it’s difficult to get your hands on the product you want.

If you do find your pedal, it’s usually boxed away or behind glass. Then you must set it up, ask for the right cables, and play on a loud amp in a public store. There are not always headphones to use, and it is very difficult to compare one pedal to the next.

All of these problems are vaporized at Pedal Planet.

What Types of Pedals Will be Available?

While this is no means an extensive list, here are some of the types of pedals and effects you can test out at Pedal Planet. The full list of collaborators is listed in the flight data below. But BOSS, TC Electronic, EBS Cables, Fender, and Strymon, PRS, JHS, are just some of the brave organizations to help make this vision possible.

Pedal Planet continues to evolve as new pedals come in. Got a more niche request? Talk to our Customer Support Team and we will do our best to facilitate your needs.

A Galaxy of Sound at Pedal Planet

“People are looking for experiences, not just a place to go buy something. This type of interactive display allows Cosmo Music to offer customers new sounds and pedals but more importantly, a place to test and experiment. It’s really a dream project. Building Canada’s largest pedal display, it’s like building a Disneyland for guitar players.”
– Bob Belcher, Director at Victory Displays

Building an Intergalactic Pedal Experience

This is a blast-off over three years in the making. There’s purpose to building something customers can touch and feel. Over the years, Cosmo Music has worked hard to create unique experiences and environments for musicians – meaning they couldn’t just go out and buy the pieces and assemble something. For this project, they needed to work closely with several pedal manufacturers and design partners, who helped solve many problems. All of which must be tested prior to the build – and where would we do that? Enter, Cosmo School of Music to the rescue.

How to Build a Pedal Planet

The design process involved the feedback of many hardworking Cosmo Music Employees. In fact, as you can see in the images above, one of the lesson rooms at Cosmo School of Music was converted into a “Demo Pedal Planet.” During the testing process, the Cosmo Team was able to work out many game-breaking kinks that would have delayed the launch of the real Pedal Planet. Along the way, brand collaborators and vendors weighed in, offering advice, technology, and unique ways to be a part of Canada’s largest pedal experience.

Interplanetary Sound Program – List of Collaborators

A feat of this magnitude could not be accomplished alone. Here is everyone who helped along the way:

Cosmonauts Push Space Pedals Forward

Along the way, TONS of our own employees have sacrificed their time and volunteered their knowledge to make this the best pedal shopping experience in the world. We have a lot of guitar players under our umbrella, and we have all experienced the same problems you’ve faced. That’s why it was very important to us that we solve this problem.

In the name of space travel and interplanetary sound, we can’t thank all the Cosmonauts enough for all their hard work and passion. Special shout outs to Cosmo Music’s Purchasing, Retail, Repair, and Marketing Teams, as well as many other individuals for pushing this vision to the forefront.
