Heatwave, the 1980 rock festival held at Mosport Park in Ontario, was a pivotal moment in music history. It featured a diverse lineup of electronic, new wave, and rock acts and was often dubbed the “Punk Woodstock.” What made it truly special was its timing in the evolution of new wave music and the massive crowd of around 85,000 attendees. The festival became iconic when Dan Aykroyd, as Elwood Blues, invited thousands more to join as guests, swelling the crowd to nearly 100,000. Despite some controversy and financial losses, Heatwave’s impact on the music scene and its memorable performances, including Teenage Head’s energetic set, have cemented its status as a legendary event in rock and new wave history.

For Teenage Head, the Heatwave festival was an electrifying and unforgettable experience. They kicked off the day as the opening act, and despite their scraggly appearance and punk rock energy, they felt right at home in front of the massive crowd of fans. The audience was large and enthusiastic, cheering them on as they delivered their signature head-banging ramalama punk rock. This was a pivotal moment for the band, and it meant so much to them that a year later, they proudly featured a picture from their Heatwave performance on their live album cover. One of the standout moments from their set was their performance of “Wild One” from the Frantic City album, which left a lasting impression on both the band and the thrilled crowd. Heatwave was a testament to the vibrant punk rock scene of the time, and Teenage Head’s performance was a true highlight of this legendary festival.
